i have an 1888 5 dollar coin but I've been searching the internet for images to figure out exactly what I have and have not been able to find anything that's like the one I have. first off all of the coins I find by googling have "FIVE D" on the reverse and the coin I've got has 5D on the reverse. which really seems quite strange to me so I'm wondering if anyone happens to understand what I'm saying and might be able to enlighten me.  Could you post the weight and diameter please? It will help us decide if it is a pure fantasy piece or a Morgan dollar that has been altered in some way. Is that the actual colour (yellowish) or is it just the lightings? |

My first guess would be a fantasy coin struck by a private mint. The reverse design is that of an 1878 B2 parallel arrow feather.

For some reason it makes me think of a 1883 No Cents Liberty Head 'V' Nickel "Racketeer Nickel". Those were plated with gold to deceive merchants back in the day.
Was this made to deceive people back in the day also? Just a thought

It is a struck counterfeit made in China. You can buy them all day for about $1-$3. Quote:

How can it be a counterfeit if it isn't anywhere near the correct diameter or weight of a true Morgan? |
