Got this yesterday from a local Jewlery store owner. Short version he has over 40 , 1922 that he just got in from someone hard up for cash. He offered them all to me for $10 each for the lot. I know nothing about them or the VAM listings.Bought this one because I liked the tone on it . Can anyone with some knowledge of the series point me in the right direction? Thanks in advance.   |

$10 each?!?! Forget worrying about varieties...
If they are real, they each contain ~$20 in silver at current spot prices, which are close $26/ozt. And even cull silver dollars seem to sell for $5 or more over the spot price these days.

That's$20 of silver for $10. Not sure why he is offering it cheap. Check weight and size. Pics look good.

Edit .... He is not trying a scam (I dont believe )he told me he got them for "around 5 each" ... I'm guessing "or less". Hes working a deal to buy a bulk lot of gold so think he may be just trying to raise some quick cash . ? Weight on one I got is 26.73 G. So seems legit ?

If someone in a bind offered them to me for five each, I would not sleep well taking advantage of someone like that. Or, I might think they were stolen...
On the other hand that is a ridiculously low price he is offering you. Maybe he hasn't recalibrated his pricing expectations for several years?

Hes older , Ive known and bought many proof sets from him in the past . I'm still questioning why so cheap ... Guess I need to bring the scale with me ? Lol

A question to anyone looking in.... Would the tissue test work on a toned coin such as this one? Edited: maybe that and a scale would be quickest for this poster Edited by Greasy Fingers

The obverse on that piece is amazingly well struck up, particularly for a lightly circulated coin. While the price is right out of the 1980's, I'd investigate further. What is the thickness? Can you get a pic of the rim?

Just day dreaming.... if I tell him he is only asking half the price of silver in each coin, he may realize he has made a big mistake on the pricing. Jewelers aren't usually shy about charging big markups, so why would he offer genuinely huge discount? Hmmm, wouldn't a jewelry store have some sort of precious metal detection equipment? Is greed clouding my judgement? *wakes up*
