I'd like to see more light on that cheek.

Good price if it grades MS-64 or better. Seems like MS-63 is more likely.

I'd give it a MS64. Nice coin.

Potential for hairlines? (see bottom areas of obverse date and reverse "E" "D" area)

We have no clue here of what the cheek looks like.

@Coinfrog, I played with the photo a bit, and the adjustments produced this view of the cheek:

1887-S-$1-Morgan-Dollar

To me, it looks like the cheek has unbroken toning, with light acne. I'm at MS-63. It's a nice coin, but on balance I think the dings in the field west of the portrait and above and below the motto, along with the isolated dings near the "M" of UNUM and the tip of the olive branch are just a little too much for a 64.

@cboyera, the hairlines you mentioned appear to be die polishing lines.

Count me in for MS63 as well.

average strike for this year. just a little concerned with the luster across the cheek which appears to be gone for the most part otherwise a decent coin. I think she would come in at MS63+ so the price is pretty much retail.

I'll say 63 with an outside shot at 64.

Took a good look at it and it might be an earlier die stage of VAM-2A. Polish lines on obverse match up and the diagonal lines at 7oclock do too but later die stages have a horizontal polish line going over most of it.

Why are those die polishing lines and not cleaning?

@NumisEd

Check this out, marks match up to die polishing lines (at least on obverse that I can tell)

the best indicator is they do not cross over the devices surrounding them

I'm at MS63 with an outside shot to MS64 possibly, but not likely.
