1933-Saint-Gaudens-Double-Eagle-Sells-For-Record-$18.9-Million-Dollars!

Talk about a blow out sale! $19,000,000 for one coin! What an incredible sale price for one double eagle. Here are a couple links to articles discussing the auction:

https://www.aljazeera.com/economy/2...18-9-million

https://www.coinworld.com/news/us-c...lion-dollars

And I'm sitting here worrying if I am paying too much for a $30 Morgan dollar. Congrats to the person who purchased one of the rarest, most prized coins in the world.

Makes me wonder what the New England threepence would go for if it's real. To me it seems more valuable - first coin of the Colonies/US, the only one and the only one of that design anybody could obtain. Somebody could have the only complete set of New England to go with their oak trees, willows, etc. To me the 1933 is just another DE except for the date and a sordid history.
Rest in Peace

Maybe that's true , but only One single individual by law is allowed to own one . I would think that is pretty rare for all the Double Eagle collectors in the world .

All it takes is one stroke of the pen to make this specific example no longer unique.

Not necessarily, but legislation typically needs a signature. I do not see anything veto proof getting passed any time soon.

Not what I'd spend my $19M on. A numismatist president will inevitably get in someday and set the others free. Congrats to the buyer though.

I should not have dropped out at $18.8 million. Big mistake.

I appreciate your support!

Just kidding. I could never be president. Not enough hair left to lose from the stress!
