Is that even possible? What's the story behind this one?

Holy smoke! I would almost put this as a Struck Fragment, where's the other missing piece?
Edit: I would say now its a struck fragment.

If you do not have in your hand this fragmented coin you can not pronounce. This fragment need a very close look and the tools. In 3 years with TPG's I have only two like this.

Looks right to me, but I'm far from an expert on this rarity. Time for Mike Diamond's opinion to nail it down as that would appear to be a truly remarkable error.

Good counterfeits, and I have many, can look spot on to we who are not experts in that specific thing. Mike will likely see exactly what needs seen to verify it. As noted, I think it's good, but I'm not the one to verify something like that so my opinion isn't useful here.

To me it looks legit. On both sides of the fragment, I can see striation lines on the area in the centers that are higher. That tells me this was a struck coin. The metal in the center is not contained, thus the distortion of the central area on the coin.

KeepTheChange, in the follow photo I put two red circles and green line.
Please if you can take closer photo on both sides for red circle and side photo for the green line? In photos you are very good, but not sure for your time.
Like I say this coin need to have in hand to analize correctly.
I ask you the photos for me and also for the forum. If I see those photos then I will give my opinion just base on photos.
Thanks,
COOP has a good strong point.
