Hi everyone! Let's start a thread for the coins of Sinkiang Province during the Qing and Republican eras. Also, the issues of Hotan Habibullah and Yaqub Beg counts as well.

Copper and silver, and machine struck or hammered, or even cast!

For the love of Sinkiang Numismatics!

Sinkiang Province (Kashgar) 1909 (AH 1327) Dragon 5 Miscals (EF)

An excellent example with a strong strike and clear elucidation of the dragon's scales. The dragon is sharp, with its delicate scales present on the entire body, with minimal smudging. The veins of the leaves are also clear and visible for the most part, just like the denticles. The obverse is also sharply struck with all characters visible and there is a bit of toning! Flower rosette is not smudged.

A weight of 5 Miscals or Qian on the Xiang Ping scale, a soldier's and army's pay scale under the Viceroy, Zhang Zhidong of the Hunan Army.

Edge is of different reeding, with angular elements. This is called indentured edges according to some Chinese sources. Made with an indigenous press.

Krause: Y25.2 and Lin and Ma 752.

Gxseries and Numister's types are genuine, IMO, with the soft and rather inconsistent strikes from Sinkiang, despite the relatively modern Tihwa/Dihua mint (present day Urumchi). The mint and region itself had a history since the 1900s with their Arabic and Chinese miscals. They were minted at the Shuimogou Arsenal. This might be the same area or another type. Will consult some of my Sinkiang works. Thanks for sharing these!

A bit of a crude variant (H#22.1231), this one is a 10 cash Tongzhi Tongbao (posthumous issue: 1883-1885) minted for Kucha in Sinkiang.
