average strike for this year. I'm a little concerned about the spots on the obverse. I think the coin may have been dipped at some point and not rinsed properly. another indicator is the flat luster areas on the reverse fields. I don't think it was over dipped though. it is difficult to grade through toning like this but due to the broken luster and obverse eye appeal I can't put it higher than MS63. tough call on a details designation so I'm calling it straight for lack of a better obverse photo (lighting)

Agree, an obverse pic with more light on the fields would help.

Looks like an MS coin. MS-63 judging from these photos.

The reverse looks nice, MS64ish, but the obverse holds it back. It may just be a bad photo. I'm going MS62.

58 The reverse has muted luster and possible circulation rub.

MS63 possibly tough call on the obverse being so darkened with toning, it could hide many scuffs or it may be even nicer. SO a middle of the road guess at MS63 based mainly on the reverse.

@ panzaldi... "another indicator is the flat luster areas on the reverse fields"

Please help me learn more with grading from photos...What areas do you see this on, where should I be looking ? Under the eagles wings between the wreaths?

MS63 as well, but I'm primarily basing on reverse appearance given the minimal amount I can make out on the obverse through that toning

No opinion on grade here, but I'm hesitating on the obverse toning. I'm not so sure this is AT. The spots aren't in a pattern, which is what would be expected from a paper towel or dish cloth.

I could well be wrong here, but I've seen similar spotty toning on silver coins from some of the WW II / early 1950s era one-sided display albums. There was something about glue used on the backing paper that left the spotty toning. These albums were much more cheaply made than the classic pre-war albums. The plastic display side left coins with light peripheral gold toning, and the paper reverse sides had bleed-through glue that left spotty toning.

The one I remember best was Wayte Raymond's second generation albums. IIRC, they were branded "The Popular Album" or something like that. I think they had a slot to display the coin's reverse, and an 1889 UNC/BU would have been a good inexpensive candidate for that.

This coin has that light golden peripheral toning on the reverse, and has a deeper golden color in the cotton blossoms and other parts of the obverse.

Not sure on this, but it was enough to make me pause a bit when I saw it.

Repeat, better obverse pics with lighting needed.

i would expect to see something similar on the obverse but the toning is just masking the surfaces

Hard to say on a grade with the photos . I think we are missing most the marks . I think the duller areas on the reverse are the lighting . Coin looks UNC to me.
