The 1885-S is a bit of a tougher date. It has a decent strike for the date and mint. It looks like 1885-S VAM 5A.

Solid slider, AU-58. Nice coin.

Not less than AU-58, but I would not be surprised at MS-65.
Rest in Peace

You can see surface disturbances on the obverse field behind Ms Liberty's bonnet and above and below her eye on the cheek and forehead.

On the reverse you can see disturbances in the fields between the eagle's wings and the laurel wreath. There appears to be some surface disturbances on the breast of the eagle and below the motto IGWT..

Coins like this are sometimes referred to as "sliders".

As far as a numerical grade goes there is only one way to find out! Send it in!

Thanks WesternSky for the break down.

I can tell you that in hand, this looks like it was circulated for a minute or two. It was part of the collection and not one of the BU coins that I have multiples of.

There are some sharp eyes in this group!

I'm picking out 10 or so to send in. This one will be one of them.

It's a very nice AU58 with the contact marks of an MS65.
