So... What I have is a Lincoln Penny that is pretty interesting, but... Also a bit of a mystery. If you take a look, it's really hard to make out any details. Being that I couldn't see a year, I decided to weigh it and it came up to 2.90 grams. So, I'm going to guess that it's pre-1982. What I am really curious about is if this is a minting error, of if this looks like damage that came later. And, if it is an error, what would it be classified as.

This goes well beyond a "parking lot coin" this is total road kill on acid! NOT a minting error, just post mint damage ( PMD). Almost not identifiable as a US cent, Abe's outline is the only thing that saves it.

Post strike damage, with acid as the prime suspect. Would be fun to keep as a curiosity.

Quote: it's really hard to make out any details I agree. Pretty much basal state on this one.

There has been speculation that this type of damage could be caused by wave action. Could this coin have been found near the ocean or a large lake?

Lol @Dearborn: yes, I should've checked the OP's location (Denver). Unless coin was found/obtained elsewhere.
