What does the edge look like? Did you post the other one? John1

@mze, this quarter was damaged after it left the mint. The folded over metal may have come from this coin being trapped in rotating machinery, such as a dryer, but in any case it isn't a mint error.

Yes, post strike damage. Does show the classic signs of an early Dryer Coin.

If it is a Dryer Coin, the reeds will be missing from the edge and the diameter will be smaller than a normal quarter. The weight will also be normal. It is just a damaged coin if this description fits your coin. No premium for this.

The dryer does not melt the coin. The coin got caught in some machinery. There are a lot of threads on this subject.

Post mint damage ( PMD). I'd like to see the one you have you say is made of "dime material"!

I'll post it when I get a chance, from what I understand it was made of "dime stock" without the majority of the quarter clad...

The longer the ride, the smaller in diameter the coin becomes: The fall in a commercial dryer is like whacking the edge of the coin, with a spoon.

If it was a Dryer Coin, the reverse would be effected like the obverse. I think the obv was ground down years ago, then wore down from circulation.
