First time I've ever spotted a doubled die in my hand before I had even had a chance to put it under magnification (I was particularly pleased with myself, since I even correctly guessed the attribution number without magnification thanks to coop's trick of looking at the tail of the 2 in the date).

This was in $10 of customer wrapped rolls that included a huge dump of wheat cents (I would say about 1/5 of the coins were wheats with plenty of 10s, 20s, and 30s mixed in and even a few not bad dates). I still haven't even checked the remaining coins or the wheat cents for varieties, since I found this while I was just doing my initial pass through to sort everything to search for varieties later.

Yes super clear! Now you just need to flatten those staples.

Very nice! But why do the best finds (sort of) in the wild have to be covered in gunk?!

Are they making you nervous, Spence. I know a lot of folks that won't use staples. They tape their 2x2's.

@spence already flattened. I just took the picture right after putting it in the 2x2.

You made me go back and look at my bank roll finds, Sam. I have two 003's and one 008 that looks to be, remarkably, in the same condition as yours.

@Makescents nice! this is my first 72 DDO. My dad gave me his old collection years ago that includes about 10 72 DDOs in BU condition that he found in circulation when they were first released, so it's fun to be able to add my own contribution nearly 50 years later.

@Dearborn definitely. Always satisfying to salvage a variety that has been circulating for many years.

Congrats on a nice variety. Always fun to add to your Dad's collection.

Nice find. Congrats! I've got three rolls of 1972(P) cents sitting on my desk waiting to be searched. Thanks for the inspiration - and the kick to my procrastination.

Very cool, Sam! When you have time, you should post some of those from your Dad. The only thing better than a 72P doubled die, is a BU 72P doubled die. I really like this series of DD's.
