Also snagged this one at the coin show last Saturday for my Date Set.....not a big enough Morgan fan to do a complete set like the rest of you crazies . Thoughts?

Interesting coin. The reverse looks like the reverse of VAM-1C (die break over "MERIC" of AMERICA), but that obverse is a normal date. This appears to be a far date. Does any other identified VAM share that reverse die? New VAM?

Nice looking fields, with decent mirroring. I'm seeing slight discoloration on the cheek and hair above the ear, and also on the eagle's legs and talons. I'm not seeing that on the eagle's head or breast. This may either be AU-58 SPL or MS-63 SPL/PL.

I'll say MS-63+.

I am thinking MS-63 with the larger contact marks on the chin, neck, and above the date. I like the subtle toning.

I find that coins pictured in the raw are normally easier to grade, but this coin somewhat of a contradiction for me. Honest pictures of a pleasing coin.

This coin a good strike with good luster, but
I notice very small flat areas on the hair over Lib's ear, and on the flowers in her hair, both with no luster.

Grade wise,
AU-58, but reverse much better, looks to grade at MS-63.

the 90(S) should be sharp and bold. this one would be AVG- for strike. luster is broken across both sides. looks like a print under UNUM. minor marks and scuffs on the cheek. not a fan of the eye appeal. I'm betting on this one being a slider. AU58

Believe this is a very high AU coing. Cheek and hair are rubbed/dull. Also believe this coin has been dipped - the toning is splotchy on the reverse.

Slight blotchy toning or not, this looks like a strong MS coin with good luster. Contact marks are few and pretty unobtrusive. Toning is neutral at worst, strike is no worse than average, and I don't see any obvious sign of cleaning. I think it's an easy MS-64 and could go MS-65. Ty2020b, I can see why you wanted to take it home!

@Ty2020b, What about running this one up the flagpole on the VAM forum? It's an attribution puzzle, because of the date position.

I like this coin. I'm still unsure of how it would grade, though. I definitely see why you snagged it.

Thank you everyone for the replies.

@FC, will do! VAMs are certainly not my forte, but I am curious as well. I'll get some pics together over the next day or so and post there.

Will also post another round of pics, ran this one though some acetone and xylene, and while it did pull that dullness on the high points, it's did expose/ make the cheek scratches more apparent. I have this one at MS62/63.

Here are a couple pics taken after an Acetone and Xylene bath. It fields are relatively clean, but I think that cheek may keep it to MS62, even though most are superficial scuffs. Maybe 63. Regardless, I paid strong AU money for it. Am also going to be adding pics to the VAM subforum if anyone has any input there. Thanks again for everyones input!

With the new pics, it is UNC. I agree with MS-62. It might be an old school SPL, although it wouldn't receive any designation today.

My wife strolled by and said it looks like Miss Williams just woke up needs to rouge her cheeks before going out.
