Agree, it looks like a Cud.
Also coins are struck or minted.
Currency is printed.

Nice Cud, looks like CU-5c-1983P-02. There were several from that year http://cuds-on-coins.com/jefferson-...l-cuds-1983/

I love Cuds on nickels. Nice coin!

I have an uncirculated CU-5c-1983P-12 Cud Jefferson nickel with the start of the later CU-5c-1983P-13 Cud. The area of the second Cud shows two small die cracks where the Cud will later form. It's not connected, so it's not a Retained Cud, but it's easy to see that it could later break off in that area of the die.

ANA ID: 3203813 - CONECA ID: N-5637 Clean a coin that may be worth collecting? Please DON'T! When in doubt, leave it dirty!!

Coins are not printed, they are struck. The difference? The devices rise above the surface of the coin. On print, it is level with the paper.

I think it is one of the more common large Cuds on 83P Jefferson nickels. The shape is really neat and I have seen this one more often than other Cuds on the 1983P. I was lucky to be around PAK members searching 1982P and 1983P mint sewn bags back in those days and they were two great years for finding all sorts of mint errors.
