I've recently inherited a number of really cool coins and this one really caught my eye. I'm new to all this, but at this point, I am thinking that I will just keep most of the coins as I am getting really interested. What are people's thoughts on the potential grade of this coin, and at what point is it worth sending a coin in to be graded? Appreciate the help.

It's probably worth grading just for the authentication. It's #41 in NGC's top 50 counterfeited coins and I wouldn't be able to recognize one. https://www.NGCcoin.com/resources/c...d-states/41/

It is hard to say from the photos, because there isn't much light reflecting off of the coin to see any details. I'll go with an AU-58. Could be as high as MS-63 though. It looks genuine to me.
Suffering from bust half fever.

Looks very genuine to me and fairly nice. Hard to tell from pictures but the detail looks like AU-58. Its possible its higher depending on the surfaces and luster but looks 58 from the flat images. Even has the weird strike through error on the neck which many genuine 1908 coins show. I would get it graded, why not? Still will not be much of a high value coin, but its cool and would look better in plastic! Definately has a shot at an MS grade as I am not really seeing any wear or marks.

I think it could be MS63? A neat coin to own. Took me decades to finally break down and buy one as a type for my collection. Mine is graded AU58 by ANACS and it looks to have numerous contact marks on the raised fields.
Yours looks sharper to me. Here's mine that I am quite happy with.

Glad to hear your inheritance has sparked a collecting interest!

I agree, get it graded to confirm authenticity. Looks like the eagle's shoulder has loss of detail from brief circulation. Solid AU-58 seems likely.
I'd go with ANACS since they are great for authentication and cheaper than PCGS or NGC. No membership required, either.

Obverse looks much sharper than reverse (worn upper wing?), but I've read this date is often found softly struck on the reverse.

Frog- not the strike. The 1908 dies didnt have detail in the shoulder and it was added in 1909. Just how it was designed that year.

Photos are a little dark to see the surfaces, but it might make MS-62.
