My goals for 2022 haven't changed much from 2021:

1. Get the rest of the Canadian and US 2021 coins I need and look for 2022 coins once they are out.

2. Work on getting more Canadian Victorian silver.

3. Continue to build out my Morgan dollar collection, focusing on higher grade nicely toned New Orleans mint issues.

4. Expand my banknote collection into US $1 notes.

5. Continue to stoke my kids and nephews' interest in coins.

6. Be on the lookout for medals that are on my list. Mainly British monarch coronation medals.

3. Continue to selectively build my collection of coins with images of saints. I would really like a large-ish medieval Saint Nicolas, but these are very expensive and come from only a couple of obscure places, as best I can tell (canton of Freiburg, and Dchy of Brieg)

@tdziemia,

I am not sure if you would consider this, but Belarus has some modern commemoratives featuring Saint Nicholas (KM #178, #388, #510, #511).

1. I have two holes left in my x82 date set to have all the centuries. 318BC and 482 AD. I'm yet to establish a coin was minted dated to 482AD, though.
2. Continue learning about Buffalo nickels and adding some pretty specimens to my AU/BU set.
3. Add a couple dates to my date sets of Capped Bust Dimes and Half Dimes and early large sets and half sets (Liberty Cap and Draped Bust).
4. Continue working in my 1882 Indian cent error and variety set.
5. Any nifty x82s I come across.

im wanting to find 1 "white" MS-63 1927 D Peace dollar (NGC) to complete my set. I have all coins in ms63 NGC standard brown holders in bright white no toning or discolorations etc.

2 get the 2022 peace/morgans to go with my 18 sets of 2021.

find a few more of the key date morgans to finish out my set if I can afford them!

1. Spend more time enjoying and looking at my collection, rather than focusing primarily on filling holes. Use this time to narrow my collecting focus and figure out what items I'd like to sell, trade, or give away.

2. Fill one hole in each of my Barber dime and Washington quarter sets.

3. Fill two holes in my Mint Sets.

4. Buy or trade for 2-5 modern US coins on my Want List.

5. Research and study Seated Liberty half dimes, including history and grading, before making any purchases.

6. Avoid impulse buys, i.e. anything that is not on my set lists, and do not start any new sets or expand existing sets. Unfortunately, my coin budget is too small for any more expansions.

7. Swap out coins in old holders, soak coins from old mint sets in acetone, and create new binders.

1. Keep working on early CBH date set focusing on interesting Overtons (clashes, die breaks, etc)
2. 1857 Half Cent
3. Draped bust half
4. $10 Indian
5. quality over quantity (stolen from earlier poster)

Funny you say that, because over the last couple of years as the remaining holes have gotten more expensive, I find myself doing the former a lot more.

I have one goal for this year:
1)Fill some of the remaining holes in "Basic U.S. Coin Design Set No Gold (1792-present)". But I'm not sure I can afford to buy an Early Dollar, Liberty Seated dollar. I think I can afford a trading dollar (but this is not accurate).

P.S.Find at home a lost silver dollar 2016 and 50 cents 1876-S.

We are all guilty of this. We all buy coins only because they are beautiful, not because we need them in our collection.

Get organized. One of the reasons I joined this group. I have been collecting coins all my life, that's it. Just collecting them with no rhyme or reason. If I find a silver coin, Wheat penny etc I just put it away in a box. I recently found out about the "W" quarters and errors and that has my interest sparked to figure out what I have.

OldBob! Organization is one of those things that is highly personal and subjective, especially when it comes to collections. But it is necessary and I think most of us could use some additional organization. Good luck!

@CollegeBarbers, amen to that. Too often for me collecting is focused on the thrill of the hunt and not smelling the roses. Both are equally important.

I am of the opinion that an impulse buy now and again is just your numismatic soul having a moment of liberty and fun. Fun is what this hobby is ultimately all about. And those impulse buys I think at their heart speak to the beauty of a coin or having a learning experience or simply exploring what's out there. I think for a lot of us, what we collect and enjoy today is different than years ago, and that might not have happened without an impulse along the way. Don't go broke of course because this is just a hobby, but have fun and "treat yo'self!".
