Hello everyone. Looking through the forum, I've been hearing a lot that it would (possibly) be better to get the smaller Dansco albums to separate the wheat cents and memorial cents. Just a few days ago I ordered the Dansco 8100, but I could easily sell it and replace it with the separate albums. Why does this seem to be the preferred method? Will I be happy with the 8100?

It gets thick if you want every issue in there. I added pages to mine until it was too thick to close and now have an extra page to keep up with later shield cents. Not a bad idea to split it, but you could get all your wheats / memorials in the 8100 and then add a new book for the 2010 - onward.

I am very happy with my 8100. Mine is older, so it ends with 2007 after I added the last two pages myself. I started a new album for 2008, which is nice because it marks a nice transition from memorial through centennial to shield.

Keep the 8100. You will not regret it.

I have the 2 albums. I like it as its a good separation and keeps the weight down, I've noticed that the heavy albums tend to have the pages separate (this happened on my Peace dollars and ASE).

I've got a small mountain of Dansco cent albums--about every flavor of them. Use what you'll get the most enjoyment from--just go for it.

I can see it for the heavier coins, which is why my half dollars exist in three albums now (four pages max). However, the cents are light and the nearly full 8100 (two coins missing) still feels lighter than any of my four page half dollar albums, or the Ike album for that matter.
Rest in Peace

I have the 8100 that goes to 2016 now and like it. I can see why some people prefer the split between LWC and LMC but that's just different personal preferences.
I also have 10 7106 albums with none going beyond 1982 just because I have no desire to own multiple examples of Zincolns.

Another option is the 7100 which does not include the proofs.

I took my Dansco cent album to 2008, so that it would represent the first hundred years of the Lincoln Cent (1909-2008). I then began a new album starting at 2009.

For what it is worth, mine started as a 7100.

The holes were only dated through 1975-S, which is the last year San Francisco minted cents for circulation, making 1976-S the point at which the 7100 and 8100 diverge. I ordered a new (bigger) binder and updated pages direct from Dansco to make it an 8100. This was before email and eCommerce, so it was over the phone and I had to mail them a check and wait.

Somehow, it was actually cheaper than buying a new album from the LCS.

Later I added the last two pages (from Wizard) to get it dated to 2007-S.

Yeah, the Dansco "proof" albums are sold as "including proof only issues." That is, they have separate holes for when there is only a proof issue for that year-mint.

Since Philly minted cents in both circulation and proof strikes up to 1964, you only get one hole and have to make a choice. Same for the 1968-S to 1974-S. Both were made, but only one hole.

Nickels get the same treatment for 1968-S to 1970-S.

The weird exception in the Kennedy half dollar album. It has a separate hole for the 1964 proof. It also has separate holes for the 1965-1967 SMS strikes, which is something they did not put in any other album.
