. Looks like environmental damage, like a once buried coin. Make sure to flatten staples on your 2x2 holders.

Looks like Environmental Toning, maybe spent some time in the ground.
No extra value as it happened after the coin was struck.

environmental damage.
as stated flatten the staples, they pose a risk to other coins that could get scratched by them.
also 5 staples is a bit of over kill. 3 usually works best and leave room enough to label the 2x2

Please always remove coins from their 2x2s so we can better see your coin. I agree, environmental tarnishing/toning/staining. Considered damage, post mint. No premium I'm afraid.

Metal detector find. No other reason for the coin to be that color, but being affected by the environmental issue:

This is environmental damage and affectionally know as "Black Beauties" There are some who collect them but it is still damage. I have a nice Jefferson nickle from 1976.

Really, "Black Beauties" are just environmental damage sirguardian? I thought they were improper annealing? How do we know this is not missing a clad layer? The detail is good. Just wondering. I get so much valuable info from this forum and then it gets contradicted.
