... But the first one I got back (I bought it from ebay) is the exact coin I saw in the listing, not a very pretty coin, but it is mine now. The problem is with the seller. I got the coin fast, VERY fast, great, but he decided that in order to 'protect' the coin, he TAPED it to a piece of card stock! TAPE! holey (garbage mouth here). I looked back at the sellers feedback (100% positive) but only 106 reports and just signed up last April. So, instead of negative or neutral feedback, I sent them a private message stating my displeasure and advised them on how to properly send coins in the mail. I gave (this time) positive feedback The seller is: 'qc_679' (if you choose to buy from them). So, I guess it is time to go soak in some acetone for a while - (just in case)

Already got a response back from the seller: Quote:
New message from: qc_679 (106Turquoise Star) Oh I apologize for that and you tell me that matter.
I certainly will change how I pack and send coins in the future.
I highly appreciate your tolerance.
Let me know if I can do anything else.

@Dearborn, it is good that you chose this approach. This seems to be the polite solution, which I would do and hope is done to me. The tape is fresh so will easily come off with acetone, plus the coin is not high grade enough for any real damage to be done.

 - that was the best approach. Good luck on your collection! Franklin halves is a great, approachable collection that can be completed fairly quickly. It was my first complete set and I assembled it almost exclusively from my LCS, searching for the nicest examples in their junk silver pile. One day I will probably assemble a nicer set.

Thanks for the kind words. This IS my first Franklin, yup not in the best condition, but for just over $9.00 it wasn't a bad buy (I think)

It's a good honest coin and a great way to start off your Franklin collection!

That's packing tape. Wow! I got a few coins with an X of scotch tape over them in the past. Acetone fixed the problem. You handled it admirably. Probably better than I would have. Depends what mood I'm in at the time I bet. Not all people selling coins are familiar with how to handle them. Thanks for the post and reminder to give people a chance. Good luck in assembling your Franklin set.

I had a similar situation. A couple of bust halves were sent to me, and they came in oversized, generic "air tites." The coins were scratched up because they were able to slide around in the containers during shipping. I messaged the seller and told him how to package coins, and he was very thankful for the insight and used it for his future sales.
I am glad it is only tape residue on the franklin, and not anything worse like harmful chemicals or scratches.

Thanks nickelGuy, however if the seller had, for example 10,000+ feedback comments, I may have approached it much differently. Also, looking at the return address from the seller, I noticed that they live just 5 miles from my front door. practically a neighbor. But mostly because I feel that they were new at this. I too think you handled it well, and it's good you got a quick response and I'm assuming positive feedback rom the seller? Could be this is be the first time this seller sold a coin? Dearborn, when you're ready to start that Canadian cent set, be sure to let me know!

No, going back and looking at his feedback, they have 117 points and looks like all coin sales. Quote:Dearborn, when you're ready to start that Canadian cent set, be sure to let me know! You bet, I'll keep you in mind as I move forward on them. (Does Dansco make a Canadian Cent album?) The ones you sent me are already in 2x2's waiting on a nice home album... EDIT - After a quick bit of research, I didn't know that there were that many different varieties that were minted. Canadian Cent set looks like a fun one to collect. Time to make up my Excel Spread sheet to get that part ready and know what I'll need (All but 6 at this point)

If doing Canadian cents you'll need to do both the small and large cents. And don't forget the Maritime provinces,
Merclover helped with the small cents, it was an enjoyable set to complete. The Canadian on here will bully you to do both sets.
