Not pretty but I did just pull this out of a bank roll. A little forum search and I find some interesting info.

"According to Alan Herbert this would be considered a "Displaced Mintmark" if you consider the date to be a design element.

In section II-C-16 of his book Price Guide to Mint Errors: He describes a displaced mintmark as "A mintmark letter""which was cut, punched, or hubbed into the die far enough out of the normal position so that it is touching some other part of the design on the struck coin."

I am just not sure if he included the date as "some other part of the design."

In the one example he showed a D/D repunched mintmark on a five cent piece where the first D was touching the E in FIVE. So perhaps this is a displaced mintmark."

I do not think it is touching the 5, close but no cigar. Within mint tolerance.

Agree. There are outliers for most if not all dates.

The only thing stated by the mint is that the MM was below the date and to the right of the jacket. You see a lot of different placements even in the same year.

There is a thin bar extending from the NE tip of the S connecting to the lower tip of the 5.

I understand MM's can vary in location but few connect to other devices.

No premium perhaps but informative I hope.

Hey guys are there any known mint marks that touch the date? I know of one, a 51D and they are so rare they go for hundreds in circulated condition.

There were several in the 50's that were close. Here are a couple of 53 S that are tight but maybe not quite touching.

Yea they are. My brother sent me a picture from a pawn shop with a 53s that was labeled mint mark touching date. I bet it was one of those rpms.

Yea frog I stumbled upon it on the CoinFacts app. It's not listed on any site I've seen. I think there's only a dozen or so of them known. All circulated. A couple VF35 sold on ebay in 2013 and 14. They went for around $100. I would jump on one of those if I ever saw it come up.

That 51D isn't listed anywhere because it's a die chip/broken post I believe.

On this one they die polishing on later die states have it removed from that area.
