What kind of roll was the coin found in? Cents? Nickels?

With the 2 tabs 180 out from each other, I'm thinking it's a knockout from an electrical box. At this point sanding a little won't hurt it. To see if there is any devices on it.

If it is the size of a cent, then it would be too small for an electrical knockout but it could be a slug or knockout of some sort. The letters you see are probably the manufacturers name. Pretty sure it isn't any type of coin.

You made me look, Jimmy. You're right, it's about the size of a nickel.

It is an excellent example of "just because something is roughly coin-shaped doesn't mean it must have been a coin".
I do not know it is one of those electrical punch-outs people often find in coin rolls, but the tags at left and right clearly indicate it was punched out of something.
Some criminal mastermind simply noticed that it was penny sized, so used it to rort the system of one entire penny. Or maybe two pennies, given how thick it is.
Of course, they probably could have sold it for more than a penny's worth of scrap metal...

Quote: I'm thinking it's a knockout from an electrical box Since I'm a commercial electrician I'll have to agree 100% that this is a knock-out blank from a steel box

Revolting! Currently wondering watt ever possessed someone to include this in a roll of coins for you to find? Wire people so prone to this? Guess nothing impeded them from doing so, and they had no capacity for resistance to temptation. I know...someone should slug me. Never mind...I'll do it for you...
