I have 2 questions. Question number one,why does this coin look like it should be called the assassination penny? Second question is are the lines around the edge of the quarter from a strikethrough with grease or are they Starburst lines from DDD?

Looks like someone took their frustrations out with a hand punch.
Those lines are caused by a Deteriorating Die. They always flow towards the rim.

Agree, appears to be deliberate damage inflicted long ago with a nail or hand punch. Nice flow lines--associated with a deteriorating die.

I agree with everyone above.

Ice picks were pretty common back then.
(Those "starburst" lines are referred to as die flow lines and are on the die from excessive use of the dies.)
Words of encouragement are one of the major food groups.
We need to consume them regularly to thrive and grow.

Even one hit with the punch would turn this coin into a cull coin. So it is just a Wheat cent now. (Hole filler until you get a better coin)
