As I think most do I put this under the scope to check the ear first thing. I'm not sure but it appears to me to have some doubling going on with the ear. It seems to trail forward on the top portion but the bottom looks doubled to me but my eye doesn't seem on point today. It looks much different then the obteen that I have personally seen. This cent in a whole looked odd to me from the get go. Any feedback and information would be appreciated. Please don't take my million questions as discrediting anyone or their opinion. I'm really just trying to understand what I am seeing on my end and/or figure out what it could be if that isn't the case. Coindom76 Edited by Coindom76 03/16/2022 10:24 pm

@coin, a close-up of the ear could be helpful. Also, this coin is showing enough circulation damage that I 'm not 100% sure that I know exactly where you are describing. Maybe add an arrow it two to the close-up just to make it extra clear? Thx.

Coindom76, a coin in this condition, I would let it aggravate me for just a few seconds now and toss. A few years ago, I would have let it drive me crazy, for a long time and try to take a few people with on the trip but was taught to let them go. I see what you are seeing in the first pic, very well but with the condition of this coin, there would never be any way to discern what you may actually have. Just trying to help....
Been there, done that.

@makescents, thank you I'm starting to figure that out. This coin looks like it has been around and had a not so great life. @Spence, these are the areas on the ear I am looking at.

Ok thx for the clarification. I feel pretty confident that those are all areas of damage. As I recall, the doubling of the ear is pretty much limited to the earlobe, although I'm not sure that there are none with the much larger spread in devices that you are describing.

@Spence, thank you for the response. Yeah, I thought the same thing, along with the condition, which is where my initial confusion to understand what this cents issue was. Thanks again Coindom76

It's not just the earlobe that is affected.

@merclover thanks, will do. I have a bunch of 1984 cents that I need to take a closer look at now. I don't want to keep posting one after another on here. @coop thanks, I will look at both these areas moving forward. Coindom76

The more we learn, there will always be more to learn. Thus the repetition of posting images and still noticing something not spotted before. (Thus I like side by sides as if something different it will often stick out like a sore thumb.
