This nickel has what appears to be some form of damage on the reverse of the coin normally I would pass this by but as it is very localized in to line across the reverse of the coin and something I do not see often I was hoping someone could educate me on what this is and perhaps how it might have occurred. Thank you.

Obverse looks like PMD and the reverse looks like a lamination.

Do laminations like this bring any kind of value to the coins or are they just considered face value.

I'm on board with lamination issue. Laminations are sought after by crazed collectors who are obsessed with coins having lamination issues--and there aren't that many lamination collectors. Having said that, only the more dramatic examples of lamination issues have ++value. Your coin might get 20-30 cents from one of those crazed collectors.

Lol, exactly what I thought but I had to ask. Thank you for the explanation and the information on crazed collectors.

the topmost reverse picture does not show a lamination, so I gather these pics are from multiple coins

You can check to see if this is a Henning nickel counterfeit on your first pics of the coin. The Hennings weigh a bit heavy at 5.4 grams while the regular nickel weighs 5 grams. Note, there are various years of these counterfeit nickels, 1946-P being one of them.

The coin is a cull from the damage that happened. Si the value is just face value. Damage is never a good thing. It renders a coin into one that is just a face value coin.
