Poll Question
I feel the demise of this coin is close. What do you think?

I sense the panic of a 5 cent noodler. I wouldn't worry about it too much "they" have been saying that for almost 20 years. Here's a thread from 2014 http://goccf.com/t/182025

depends officially minted for circulation I say maybe 2025 we can keep the boat from sinking, if deep recession out to 2040. I would think that we are likely to see it when we change monarchs and have a slight redonimation of notes and coins 5 dollar becomes a coin and we get a 500 dollar note or something like that.

Yes,i think the 5c is fairly safe while Liz. is around. I've read where there is a good chance(if the ALP is in power) Charles won't be on our Coins and the $5 note dropped so no Monarchial presence on our currency.

I don't think the Public cares too much. I do. I only use cash for as many payments as I possibly can. The sooner the 5 Cent coin is withdrawn from circulation the better. I find the 5 Cent coin somewhat of an annoyance.

I know what you Aussies are like, probably not for years to come, I chose 2030, but it could be much later.
You guys are slow to let things go - silver coins until 1966, Pale, Male and Stale Prime Ministers - New Zealand stealing pavalova and Crowded House - you guys can't let go.
PS This is humour, us Kiwis and Aussies are know for our back and forths. I am fully expecting a line of replies about certain woolly animals.
PPS Abandoned the things and huge sized coins in 2006. Most of the South Pacific followed suit, Fiji, Tonga, Samoa, Cook Islands, Vanuatu - but ironically not Papua New Guinea or Australia.

I wonder if 5 cent coins will be around long enough to see Charles III on the obverse. Wouldn't that be hilarious. Then William V. Then George VII.

I would not mind if they nixed the five cents here. Of course, my bigger ask it to get rid of our cent. As for Australia, I voted 2029. Just a wild guess. No insight or desires. Quote: I would think that we are likely to see it when we change monarchs... I agree. Your five cents will probably go away whenever they need to change the head, be it new monarch or shift to a Republic.

Not too soon hopefully - I still haven't found a 1972 low echidna yet.

What is the possibility of a Charles III one year type?

It's coming in the near future. Wouldn't be surprised if most developed countries went cashless and the US was still minting cents in 2045
