Are you saying there is something about 2020 that makes it special (other then covid)? For as long as I can remember, I have normally been able to get the silver proof sets for a little more then the spot price of silver I don't remember paying much for my last set which as the 2018 quarters Then I take a little rest from coins to focus on die cast planes and when I come back a lot of sets seem way over priced

The US Mint original sale price for the 2020 Silver Proof Set was $105.00, as was the 2021 set which had only 2 quarters.

The 2020 set also came with the W nickel. The only way to get the nickel in Reverse Proof was to buy the 2020 Silver Proof Set

Thanks, it's helpful to know the original price Quote: The 2020 set also came with the W nickel. The only way to get the nickel in Reverse Proof was to buy the 2020 Silver Proof Set I saw that but I'm just looking at the Quarters and they are selling for $60-$90 per set which seems way over priced

Quote: The US Mint original sale price for the 2020 Silver Proof Set was $105.00 The set was originally around $65. That's what I paid through enrollments. Then sometime around September they raised the prices to $105.

Supply and demand is what ultimately drives prices.

Have you checked the price of the 2012s silver proof set?

The price of the 2012's are higher due to a lower mintage I believe. (with the exception of the Denali and White Mountain quarters). 2012 is also the first year that the Mint produced a non-proof 'S' NIFC quarter.

Why would I do that? I already have that set When my statehood collection was complete, I did the math on it, and I paid and average of $19.50 per set for silver proofs

I bought every silver proof set between 1999 and 2019. But I didn't think the price of the 2020 set was worth the price. I will collect something else.

Quote: Supply and demand is what ultimately drives prices. Agreed. In this case, the market demand (and prices) for silver shot up during the pandemic and the Mint had to react accordingly.

Sunshine Mint of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho is the primary supplier of silver planchets for the United States Mint. According to a company statement, it is not a silver shortage but a production issue in filling orders brought on by increased demand. Sunshine also supplies several other world mints as well as their own bars and rounds for investors. Something else to consider when complaining about the huge increase from one year to the next, the Mint pays much more than the spot price, meaning the labor incurred by Sunshine employees and other factors. So with a shortage in planchets and an increase in outside cost incursions the mint has no real alternative. While they could return to in house planchet and blank production, one has to wonder if the cost to do so would be cheaper than from the private sector.

Have you looked at the mintages? 2019 5 coins silver quarter set 69,908 2019 silver proof set 412,514 Total five coin sets available 482,422
2020 five coin silver quarter set 64,021 2020 silver proof set 313,376 Total five coin sets available 377,397
That's 105,025 fewer 2020 sets available, that is 22% fewer sets and add in the higher original price charged it makes the 2020 set expensive and probably will be for awhile.
