From the pics given, it would appear to be from the 40's.

I'm not seeing a rev die crack in the usual location (wheat) but the obv die might have had a little grease in it thus causing the date to not be fully struck. With this amount of circulation wear though it is hard to be sure that it isn't just damage.

Don't forget, there is no VDB on the shoulder of a true 1914-D, if you see one there, rest assured, it is 1918 or later...

Hard to tell what the date is. Can you take it out of the 2x2 and re-photograph? Also take care to hold your phone correctly so it won't roll the image over on its side - that or turn off 'auto rotate' when taking images of coins.

I tend to agree that it looks like an old Greaser. I don't know how anyone is getting any sort of date off of this one.

The mintmark location doesn't look correct for the 1914-D die. Better images of the obverse would be helpful. Like one of the VDB area? The 1914-D would not have a V.D.B.. (The 1924, 34 will have the dots on the v.D.B. area) Another identifying thing to look for. If it has a VDB, then it is not a 1914 cent. (1935 forwards do not have the dots) Another bit of information the other sites don't know/realize about. CoopHome: The V.D.B. on cents had dots?
