Hello, I bought a bag of coins today for a very reasonable price at a thrift shop...a 1916 Buffalo nickel, clad Kennedy, three Eisenhower dollars, and a 1994 p Jefferson nickel.... But this coin is fake! I bought the bag for the buffaloes nickel I will post another another thread... But who's faking 1969 Kennedy halves? In hand, and hopefully in the photos, Kennedy's head is bigger, the coin weighs alright, but the strike is bubbly and off. Jewelry piece? What? Why? Who is faking these? Best, R.

@john... Thanks .. in hand Kennedy's head is bigger than the '68 and '71... It also feels a higher relief.
The coin has a few dots in the fields almost impossible to photograph... I'm curious to hear from others...but thanks... I'll post the nickel now....

Well the 1965-1970-D Halves are not clad. They are 40% silver. The edges look different on them from the clad Halves: The 1970-D Halves were only in mint sets. 2.15 million of them.

Hello -
The 1969 D is the one that I am asking about. The kennedy head is larger than the 68 and 71. Maybe I am mistaken, but it certainly looks it in hand. I feel it looks different in the picture too. I know the 65-69 Kennedy's are 40%. The coin just doesn't' feel right.
Does the head look bigger on the 69?

1969-D Halves was a big production and is presume that the Mint in Denver reuse some of the dies from 1968-D. It is not confirm yet, but if you look at the back edge of the head behind the ear you will find the same like 1968 with a little double lines on edge. Also the hear on the letter B are complete same with the 1968.
The head seem bigger? Yes the Dies was re-polish so the imprint will be slit bigger. I do not think someone consider a variety this, have no idea. For me is not and the 1969-D has a very low level quality of strike and hard to find over 64. I past more then 50 sets and never find one better. I will like to find.
1970 was the year where te Mint prepare for the new Halves on clad. Smaller production and new Hub.

For me, hard to tell. The larger obverse and reverse images posted above are a bit too soft--making it difficult to see details.

looks normal to me. If you say the head is larger, by how much? can you use a MM ruler on each coin to show the difference?

Highly unlikely someone would fake a common 1969-D 40% Silver Half . Looks real to me also .

Looks like the master hub was normal during those years. It maybe an over polishing of the dies that weaken the LIBERTY devices that are making you think the bust is larger?

The Die was polish no doubt. COOP look the left is 1969 and Right 1970 (1971 also) 69 upper was inside and the 70 outside.

In the picture above 69 and it really seems to me more than the rest. I don't think it's a matter of size, I think the sizes are the same, but my brain perceives the head 69 more.
