May have been acid dipped. (not real strong acid though) On the strike the whole coin show weakness and the scratches seem real strong on this one. (Like acid was in the scratch areas for a longer time. (reducing the weight a little more)

A nitric acid bath would do this. I used to do it with (non-collectable) coins in my chemistry classes so my kids would get a good visual lesson on how nitric acid will dissolve/react with metal

Obv does show any weakness from being a thin planchet. Any areas of weakness on the rev @cool? If not then I agree it could be acid.

This coin was put in acid. If I do not have in my hand and I can not pronounce of the kind of acid. @Early42: the nitric will change the color of the coin. The surface show very clear this acid interaction. Early catch this very fast, his credits.

I agree with it being altered. When weighing coins, don't forget to factor in mint tolerances and circulation wear also. John1

Just so I'm sure the weight differential can be +or-10 correct?

On older cents it is +/- .13 grams and on newer cents it is +/- .10 grams. John1
