Is collecting really just a matter of preference?
In collecting the Uncirculated Annual Sets - you get the Presidential coins (but not from both mints).

That is incorrect. You DEFINATELY get "both Mints" .......here is the 2008 Unciculated Set right out of the Mints own website. Now, remember, when you're talking about a " Proof Set" or a " Silver Proof Set", THEN you would only get one......ie. San Fran. But "Uncirc's" do come with BOTH MINTS. Quote:The 2008 United States Mint Uncirculated Coin Set® contains two folders of 14 coins each, one from the United States Mint at Denver and the other from the United States Mint at Philadelphia, for a total of 28 coins. Each folder includes uncirculated versions of the following 2008-dated coins: four Presidential $1 Coins honoring past Presidents of the United States: James Monroe, John Quincy Adams, Andrew Jackson and Martin Van Buren; the final five quarters from the 50 State Quarters® Program: Oklahoma, New Mexico, Arizona, Alaska and Hawaii; and the Lincoln Cent, Jefferson nickel, Roosevelt dime, Kennedy half-dollar, and Golden Dollar featuring Sacagawea. Uncirculated coins are struck on special presses using greater force than circulating coins, producing a sharp, intricately detailed image, and feature the satin finish introduced in 2005. The coins are sealed in a blister and displayed in a folder. One folder contains coins bearing the "P" mint mark and the other contains coins bearing the "D" mint mark. The United States Mint Uncirculated Coin Set

I'm sorry - I was referencing the wrong set. I'm talking about the uncirulated Annual Dollar set.

Yeah, that's true. But this is only to be an "example" of the "Dollar Coins" and examples from the Mints. And so they have the Dollars from Philly, a Sacagawea from Denver, and that BIG OLE' ASE from West Point. They don't do "Proofs" in this set, so no San Fran......just examples from the other Mints in Uncirculated...... You don't get TWO of everything in this Set.....it IS a unique set in a way though I think......and I have them and will continue to get them.

I guess the yearly uncirculated are the way to go b/c of the lower cost. The Eagle Coin from WP seems like a nice, unique feature.
Plus - the uncirculated are somewhat different than proofs right? I'm new to the scene and am trying to decide where to start. This is a very neat hobby I never thought about.
It's almost more fun asking cashiers etc...if they have coins to get them.

The annual uncirculated dollar set was issued for the first time last year so it is a relatively new product. Of course, it would have been silly to have one before 2007 since there were only two one dollar coins- the ASE and Sacagawea.

I recently bought a set for my son. It's a nice looking set, the ASE is from the West Point Mint, the Sac is from the Denver Mint, and all the Presidential dollars are from Philadelphia.

I'm not sure but wasn't the Uncirculated dollar set on the list of dropped products?

In the Mints "scamper" to offer a wide range of ways to collecting the Presidential dollars, they came up with this. But, I don't know just how well all of those varied products containing them are selling. I would not be surprised if they did drop that from their product line. If they did.....I guess I have a one of a kind and from only TWO YEARS !... My feelings won't be too hurt if they did drop it......there's already WAY TOO MUCH STUFF EACH YEAR ! And if you want to collect new products "annually" then ya just HAVE to buy it each and every year ....

I wouldn't go by the schedule for the upcoming mint products. So far they don't list the ASE proof or Unc. AGE's aren't listed and neither is the Platinum 1 ounce proof.

The "Annual Uncirculated Dollar Coin Set" wasn't offered/listed until late summer/early fall, the first and second year I believe ....so.....it could be a "quick add" again at little notice. The American Legacy Set isn't on the "Upcoming Products" either.....or the "Special Lincoln Set"......yet we know they WILL offer them......just not listed yet.... Just have to wait and see I guess !.....
