Very cool! It looks like a pre-strike lam. I may be wrong but that is what came to mind, with the strong, detailed devices, that have been unaffected. I went back and found tropical bats' post on this and my terminology was wrong, he called it a "Struck on Laminated Planchet". LINK http://goccf.com/t/421872&SearchTerms=lamination I think you are right, ijn1944 .Feeder Finger Damage, I did not think it was this wide but guess I was wrong. a pre-strike something. Not sure if it was a lam though, the edges are far too neat and even the the width is the same start to finish.

There is a pronounced feeder finger issue with some '44 cents, unsure which mint.

Looks like a feeder finger issue to me and I'll bet coop can elaborate more on that. Nice one

The differential coloring really brings out the contrast. Worthy of a 2x2 I think.

No, as I was told, the feeder fingers are hit by the die as it comes down and imprinting onto the die and subsequent planchets that entre are then marked by this damaged die. WE call it a die event no an error, however.

ah, ok, so the feeder finger damaged the die, and that damage is revealed via subsequent strikes like this one, cool, thanks Dearborn

The die as altered by the FFD damage. Thus all coins struck with that die will have the same damage. Not a planchet issue.
