Was hunting a box of pennies and noticed this coin. On the front there was a large section of grayish material(not raised) that appeared to be zinc. I see the rim there so I believe the plating could be partly missing. Same thing but smaller on the reverse around the S T or A of STATES. I see small plating bubbles on the back also, but I have heard they are "very common on zinc-olns(zinc Lincoln pennies)". Sorry for bad pics.

EDIT: Sorry for 2 reverse pictures.

It would if you showed a picture of the Obverse instead of two of the Reverse.

Could use a better-quality pic, but might be just some kind of chemical damage?

It appears that this coin was damaged chemically.

what does the edge in that area of the date look like? The reverse in that area does not show any missing plating, I'm curious ho much of the edge plating is missing.

This is a defective planchet actually or defective copper plating whatever you'd like to call it. I've found two of these in OBW rolls denver mint andddd this is a denver. Seen a lot of these on Denver's. This one has been circulated for awhile tho. Great find.
Here are my two examples 2018d Obv and rev are defective. And the 2019 d is also like that. Also here's a graded one from online (not my coin) it's a 2015 d graded ms66 defective copper plating. For confirmation. It's pretty obvious looking at these and seeing them that it's a defective copper plating and obvious when u have something that's more of a stain or clear damage. At least how my brain is it can easily identify errors & PMD
