Okay, so I'm over half way complete on my NGC Registry 21st Century Type Set and I have added only Uncirculated coins to the set, but it's ranked at 91. What's up with that?

I checked, there are only 92 sets in the 21st Century Type Set, Mint State Only registry set , none of your coins are actually graded. All are Genuine Uncirculated which in the registry set = 0 points, so you are 1 set from the last. For you to get points and move up the registry you need to buy for example MS69 coins, your coins need to be graded to actually move up the registry.

Disregard the above the OP knows what he was doing this was just a joke post.

Wait, wait, wait, hold up! You can send a coin in to a grading service and not have it graded just put in one of their fancy holders? What's the point of that?
Rest in Peace

I just checked each coin, you overpaid for the majority of them, for the same price or less you could have purchased a graded coin. As an example I got a Wilma man killer in Silver in PF69 for $9.46, you paid $19.49 for a clad and ungraded coin. You need to be more selective in what you are buying if you want to compete in the registry sets. Also as an investment ungraded slabbed coins are terrible investments, no coin dealer will give you anything for these. You'll be lucky to get $1 for the 1,5 and 25 cents and maybe $2 for the $1 coins. My local coin shop has these Brilliant Uncirculated coins in the $2 basket.

I would just do a raw set if you want to do it and not have the coins graded, you'll pay less than these ungraded slabs.

That's pretty good advice. You've been spending money and not getting much credit for it.

Wait a minute....

I just checked your profile! You know what you are doing with the registry set!

So what was this a ploy to have a 0 point registry set? If yes the question is why?

And honestly why ask us why you have 0 points if you know the answer? Is this some kind of troll post?

Wait a minute....

I've been having a little fun with this set. At one point, I tried adding a coin to a different registry set that NGC had only given a generic grade of "Brilliant Uncirculated." I was a little taken aback when I discovered that NGC would not even award the coin one registry point. At the time I thought Brilliant Uncirculated at least was comparable to an MS-63 grade.
The thought then occurred to me that it might be possible to create an entire registry set and not earn a single point in the rankings. The obvious choice to try this registry challenge was the 21st Century Type Set.
Thus, I began seeking out these coins NGC graded as "Brilliant Uncirulated," and I titled the new set "Zero Points."
Although the task has thus far been enjoyable, which is the whole point of collecting, it has also been frustrating, because these "Brilliant Uncirculated" coins are elusive (except for the Presidential dollars and the 2009 Life of Lincoln cents) and are usually priced well above market price. In fact, some of coins I still need may not even exist in this generic grade.
Another oddity that I've encountered is that a coin graded "Gem Uncirculated" is awarded registry points, just not very many.
I like to have fun building unusual registry sets and I usually never get very high in the rankings, but my goal has never been to win Best in Category awards... although NGC also gives awards for Achievement...
I also have a Sacagawea dollar set titled "Get yer kicks with Sacs 66," containing MS-66 coins, and a Jefferson War Nickel set with Omaha Bank Hoard coins.
So I apologize if I misled or confused anyone who was sincerely giving me advice based on the my original post. I didn't really mean for that to happen. I've just been having fun with this set and wanted to share.

Ok. You are forgiven

I thought it was a real post asking why it was 0. When I looked at the prices of these coins, I was like MAN YOU OVERPAID....

But I get it! Good luck in finishing the 0 point set!

BTW, hfjacinto, I completed my 7070 set, but still couldn't catch up to you in the rankings! Kudos on your awesome set, my friend!"

Thanks!! The last 3 are doozies!! I've been working on IHC as I don't want to spend as much as the last 3 cost.

The above is how I knew you were joking! I was looking at my set and see captainrich .... WAIT A MINUTE

This is the guy with the 0 point set?

I link to your profile and huh

Now that I know its a great way to go. I like the idea of a 0 point set. I wish there was a way to make it negative

This is taking "lowball" to a different dimension.

It is like getting a 0.0 GPA. Very difficult to do when at least one professor will give you a passing grade for credit so you never set foot in their classroom again.

Well done, captainrich, I like these challenges you've taken upon yourself! A little different, but hey, we all need a little fun sometimes!
