1981 D? Penny. What Kind Of Error Is This?

The date on this penny is messed up. It is either an 81 with a slanted 1 or an '82 with missing part of the 2. it weighs exactly 3.00 grams so it has to be copper.
on the '82 d pennies the base of the 2 doesn't seem to be this close to the 8. what do you guys think. thanks for the help.

Agree w/ Coinfrog. The "1" is too close to the "8" to be a grease-filled "2" — and doesn't have a Greaser look, anyway.

@f3, yes this is interesting damage. We frequently see the last digit on the date partly slid like this or sometimes the L in LIBERTY takes this damage.

Me I will say dispatch material by the kind of mechanical, accidental contact or deliberate vice. We will never know, the coin do not wrote CVS or speak.
