SamCoin Pillar of the Community United States 3237 Posts	Posted 08/26/2022 6:15 pm I've wanted to find one of the many nice 1983 doubled dies for a while. This one isn't the most dramatic, but it's not too shabby, either! The late die state makes it a bit hard to see under my microscope, but I've done my best to get the light to catch on the split serifs in UNITED and the separation lines in ONE and CENT. Fortunately, mine happens to be in nearly the same die state as the example coin listed by Wexler, so it's very easy to match the (many - lots of die abrasion) die markers. This was the very last 1983 I looked at because I like to set aside the couple coins in the best condition for each year as I search and look at them last in the hopes of a nice surprise. I may send this off for grading since it's in MS red condition and Coppercoins seems to suggest this coin is in the 200-300 dollar range! Report this Post to the Staff
CoinHunter27 Pillar of the Community United States 5887 Posts	Posted 08/26/2022 6:38 pm That's an amazing find! Very scarce variety and far rarer than the big brother FS-801. This would be a nice candidate for grading if it looks nice in hand. I can't tell how the grade is with your full coin images, but there are only 9 examples graded RD by PCGS. I think I once knew that this one was pretty rare, but I somehow forgot (and even forgot it was listed in the CPG lol) when I first found it! The picture I posted of the full coin doesn't do it justice, but it looks amazing in hand. I would say MS64 pretty comfortably if not higher. Report this Post to the Staff

There were a good number of BU 80s-early 90s mixed in, so I wonder if maybe at least some of the coins were from an old change jar or something that a person finally cashed in. @luvmyCAM Thanks! It's awesome finally getting a rare variety that's actually on a nice coin! The only other truly rare variety I've ever found was a 1996 FS-101 in absolutely tragic condition.
