This is definitely not my coin. I am very proud of my own collection for what it is, and quite comfortable with the truth that this amazing coin will remain above and beyond my range forever. What do you think this coin should grade?

I'm going to guess the strike is soft and it's mid AU.

what a nice coin. super cool. I think its xf. I would expect it to be in an au holder.
for anyone who doesn't know its pronounced something like deem rather than dis-me. I went around saying it incorrectly for years before I was informed of my error.

I've been comparing this lovely coin to various others that have sold graded. My my it is a very expensive coin! This one appears very similar to an AU55 I have been looking at that sold for $172,500 in 2008! I don't think it's the same one, it has the same weakness around the 'M' in Disme, and so I can safely say this was a weak strike with that same die. I'm gonna say AU55 for this and I bet it is worth a great deal more than what that one sold for in 2008!

My first inclination was XF-45, but I have no clue how these coins should be graded. I look forward to learning some more about grading these coins.

stacks sold an au50 for 132,000 earlier this year. nice coin.
i cant find any listings for a low ball that was solidly in the 6 figure range. sold a year or two ago. strange that they dont have that data point listed.then again coinfacts also has a sale of an MS80 (thats right...80) listed for august 2018...so who knows whats going on there.

This coin probably received an AU-55.

AU-55 would not surprise me either, but this is way out of my league.

Amazingly one of these exists in MS-68 condition. For this one I will say AU-50.

I've never really looked into these early Half Disme coins and am not familiar with the wear spots, That being said it does appear to be au so I will say Au-53

We are about one day (half way!) through this guessing game. I'll add that this Half Disme has no record of appearing in auctions, and was probably not sent in by Heritage, Stacks, or any other company with literal stakes in PCGS and NGC. In my limited experience (I respect the members in this community a lot for your experience) I have noticed that coins sold at major auctions are more likely to be overgraded than coins without auction histories. Do you guys (and gals) think I am crazy for seeing a connection here?
