any reason that this penny would be colored like this- I know it is old but it also has a weird feeling to it, it is extremely smooth, you cannot feel any if the words or the face of the penny. just wondering what you all think of this. thanks.

Stained from some unknown environmental exposure. Just a cull with no premium.

Copper is a reactive metal. Once it has been exposed to the elements it can go anywhere as far as color.

Yes damage from exposure to something: acidic dirt, chemicals, fire. The exact reason is probably not knowable.

Agree with all above. Have a hunch it spent some time in a less-than-friendly water environment.
