This dollar was also in the auction tonight. Wondering what everyone thinks this one grades. I did not win this one.

Hard one to grade from these photos. Could either be an AU-58 slider or an MS-64.

That's exactly what I was thinking @IndianGoldEagle, which is why I was a bit hesitant to offer an opinion initially. I can't tell if there's a tinge of wear on the hair that might hold it back to AU-58 (Edit: I actually think that this coin might make MS-65 if there is no wear present).

Tough call. Not the best pics, can't get a good feel. Anywhere from 58 to 65 would not surprise.

This is one of those kinda coins that the grade is dependent on who sends it in.
If an individual smuck commoner like us send it in it'll get an Unc details with questionable toning slab.
If the big auction house sends it in, it'll get 65+, gold labels and the "clean portrait and fields surrounded by gorgeous toning" descriptions when it hits the auction block.

Hard to see past the pitting on edges & fields. Loosely I would suggest anywhere from MS60 to MS63... Maybe better in hand ? Personally I would not lose any sleep over not winning this one.

It looks dull and lifeless. Probably an MS63 label in an old holder?

im with IGE on this one. AU58 or MS64 the photos show a coin with not much luster however, it can be muted by the toning. in hand coin rotation would help. I've seen this look before with clean surfaces and they graded MS64 and some MS65 so this probably doesn't help at all

I agree with the comments made here. I was going to bid when it was sitting at $65 figuring it was a slider at worst. Bidding quickly escalated to $425 with the juice, so I was not close on this one. Apparently those bidding felt it was MS.

Might be MS, but it would be tough to take a chance on it without seeing it in hand.

Looks 65. Only one light hit on the cheek, and no obvious signs of rub. Toning is attractive.

Agree! And it will not be graded down because of it.
So: Ugly toning - grading disregards it, only judges surface condition. Beautiful toning - grade gets a bump, sometimes significant (see recent threads with rainbow toned coins)
Makes no sense to me.
