Does this look like a clipped planchet? And is this a valuable coin?

@jen, yes I think you are correct. This looks like a minor clipped planchet to me too.

Need to photograph both sides of the clip site to determine if PMD one directional shear or not.

A clipped blank should not show signs of one directional shear, because that is obliterated during upset process (making the thickened edge), and planchet strike

Any idea of the value? I have another that's not clipped as well and one that has no mint mark in same condition. I saw a short clip online and stated they were valuable, thought I'd ask here to find out for sure. Thanks for your time

A closeup of the clipped edge could be helpful as @sel is mentioning. As to value, best guide is to look at sold prices on ebay for similar clips. The value goes up by how much of the coin is missing, especially if the date is left.

Check ebay's sold listenings for similar coins. As to value, generally these aren't worth much.

Check to see if a nickel will fit into that clipped area? What I'm not seeing on this coin is The Blakesley affect or the weakening of the devices near the rim. It a nickel is to large to fit into that area, I feel it maybe an altered coin. Looks like it was cut in two directions. A curved clip should only show one direction for the clip. Also note the rim is pushed into the direction of the clip. It shouldn't look like that on the a real curved clip.

Copp beat me to it. Not seeing the Blakesley effect, and the two various colored areas in the missing area do look like two actions done to the coin.

This looks genuine to me. The way the metal flows and fades towards the clip, especially on the obverse, is quite telling. The "shearing" texture seen on only half the edge seems quite typical too. More close-up pictures of the rim there (not the edge) would be good to confirm.

The Blakesley effect is a good diagnostic to start on, but it isn't always present in very small (or very large) clips. Plus, the curvature of clips can distort so that it won't always match the curvature of the coin (though this is more true of large clips).

Should we have Mike Diamond take a look at this one?

A 1964-d with a curved clip sold for 13.33 (2021) just to give you a starting point for value.

This it is a man made like a clipped planchet. Is no question about. Legitimate clipped planchet always is strait on rim cut.

I'm with Coop and Silvio on this - the cut should go through the entire coin from one direction, not meet in the middle.
