This one came up on ebay as two separate listings by the same seller a couple hours apart. Guess they didn't notice that this was a mated pair. I hung around to make sure I got the second half after winning the first one. Would have been a shame for them to get "split" up. I find this coin absolutely lovely, and would pretty much put it in at something like MS65BN. Kind of rude for ANACS to just plop a 60 on a coin with such great surfaces, luster and appeal. 1937 Lincoln Wheat cent mint error - lamination split after strike - mated pair

Yes that is a great set. I agree it should be much better MS grade. Good job on keeping them together.

Yes that is pretty cool. I wonder if detaching the lamination actually increased the value in this case. In other words, if that flap hadn't been pulled off of the coin and this was slabbed as a single piece, would you pay as much for that as you would with the current situation of two pieces slabbed separately?

That is really eye-catching, amazing pickup. I agree the grade certainly looks better than a 60. Amazing pieces especially as a mated pair. Congrats!

You can't go wrong with a mated pair like that.
By having both you protected the value of the first one. Each by themselves is phenomenal but having the pair seems very rare.

Glad you were able to get both. (they should have been sold together. They might have received a better price that way?)

Thanks for all the kind words! And yes, I am quite sure they would have sold higher as a pair than as individuals. Just so much more rare to have both bits.
