I have just inherited some coins and can't find which mint it was made at apparently there is supposed to be a letter underneath the head as far as I'm aware.
I'm very new to this this is the coin

It was made in Philadelphia ( no mint mark).

The only letters you will find on a Morgan dollar are CC, S, O and D.
No letter means it was minted in Philadelphia.

The mint mark on these is below the wreath on the reverse. You mentioned looking for it "under the head." As others have said, it's Philadelphia unless there's a CC, O, S or D. Other than the War Nickels, "P" didn't start appearing on US coins until 1979. https://www.usmint.gov/learn/collec...s/mint-marks
