I have several Mercury dimes in my collection, here is one of them. It has several lash marks in the face of the obverse side as well as some hash marks round the outer rim are any of those normal. I'm thinking the face marks might be when the coin was pressed and the outer markings came later thru it's life. And the markings are similarly matching the ones on the back outer rim. I cleaned it upon taking photos with a soft towel and acetone. Did I clean it correctly? It still has a nice shine to the finish on both sides. Is there a better or more correct way to mildly clean coins for future reference? Also is there a difference with cleaning techniques with different coins and types of coins? What grade would I expect with this coin? I am taking a guess as I am in the beginning of using certain aspects to educatedly grade coins. I am going with a VF58?

I'd grade this F or perhaps VF details (severe damage). Just a bullion coin at this point.

First, never clean coins. If you must, a dip in 100% pure acetone is ok,never wipe with a cloth. No such thing as VF58... https://www.PCGS.com/photograde/ The hashes are PMD.Photos are ok but a bit out of focus and too much glare. Also, your coin has a D mint mark.

A circulated, dinged dime. As it is silver, that's a good thing.

That is a damaged coin, worth silver value.

Never clean your coins. The rub with a towel as you describe will ruin the value of any numismatic premium item.
