I purchased 2 rolls of half dollars from my bank and came across this one here. The bottom portion of the E in Liberty seems to be missing. I don't notice any rubbing in or around that area that would suggest PMD. Would this be caused by debris in the die? Any help would be appreciated.

No debris or rubbing here. You has an re-polish Observe Hammer Die. Is not error or variety. It is just a normal mint production course.

As mentioned it is from over polishing the die and part of the issue is the design.

For oddguy.

Did not realize until I did the side by side but the hair was polished off too.

Nothing super special but good eye, CharPDX214, keep your eyes open.

The E was heavily polished on all sides - changing the font almost, serifs are missing and as mentioned, Kennedy had a hair cut too..
