Here's a coin that I'm curious to hear everyone's thoughts on. Both my local coin dealer and I agreed that this coin wasn't cleaned upon looking at it in hand, but we had very different ideas on the grade of the coin.

Pretty coin at least to me... No idea about Overton variety... Probably an AU-55 looks about right to my eyes

A super nice AU-58. Doesn't look cleaned to me either.

Not the best pics. Certainly high AU sharpness. Contrast in color between the sides suggests the obverse has been cleaned. Larger and brighter pics of the obverse showing surface details better would help.

I love the early bust halves with the weak strikes. I have one that is very similar and my quick guess is O-103 but I'll try to look further. I'm at AU-55 also.

Here's another picture of the obverse. My photos aren't great, and don't fully show the luster, but hopefully they give you a sense of the surface quality of the coin.

The first photos seem like AU-50, but I am settling with AU-53 with the last photo. Because this coin was struck with a die that had heavy deterioration flow lines, the luster stays visible with a greater amount of circulation wear. This coin is fantastic having a sharp strike, round cheek, and no problems. Nice find that I am jealous of!

What did you and the dealer think the grade was?

My first thought was AU-55. Beautiful coin. I agree I love the flow lines as well.

Likely an old dip then placed in an album or cabinet that only retoned one side.

Hard to tell from photos, but I'd say AU-53/55.

To answer your question @jacrispies, the dealer assigned a grade of XF-45 to the coin while I was at AU-55. The dealer indicated that the weakness across certain parts of the coin was due to wear, not strike. I pointed out the luster and the fact that these early bust halves often had weak strikes, but he didn't budge from his initial grade on the coin. He might have also been trying to undersell the coin to buy it from me at a low price. He tried to buy it off of me for about $525, an offer I rejected pretty quickly.

I don't see any wear whatsoever and it looks like weakness in strike. Please can we see a video to assess the lustre?

The obverse strike is weak so the market grade might be lower than the technical grade.

The coin would be a good example to send for grading as a large difference in value between XF45 and AU55.
