I came across this fun one today. It's super shiny, so I had to take pictures from a few different angles to try to show it as true as possible. But the bottom line of the "E" on "We" is pretty stubby, compared to the "E" in "Liberty." I need to look at other coins from that year to see if it's the same. And the S looks 'broken' but it could just be the lighting. Kind of a fun find. :)

I've seen similar where it appears that the letters aren't completely filled in or missing certain parts. Are these of value?

@HotCoins13: I have no idea. It's not on any 'valuable' lists that I know of.

Machine doubling, perhaps, on TRUST. Perhaps someone else will weigh in on the "stubby E."

What's the date? That's important info in determining what's going on.

@gar, can you please tell us the date of this cent? I would like to add this information to the title of the thread. Thx.

So sorry. I must've had a tired mom moment.

The coin is a 2022 D.

I would've thought that about the "S" too, except that it's so shiny and new and there are basically no marks on it at all. It just really does look like something is 'shifted'. And I thought about grease, but the end of the 'stubby' E thing looks rounded, just like it's supposed to be. So...

Depending on the bounce after the strike, the bounce can affect the coin devices at the base/mid/tops of the devices. Note the devices are still normal size, just altered on the top part of the design on that device. On the second 'T' on trust, it looks like that die was polished on that area and the upright is thinner looking. (Which happens if the base is removed from off that area that was polished) These Lincoln cents get polished a lot as the die ages and they are removing the Ridge Ring on that area of the die. So more of a die polishing and a striking issue with post strike. Not a premium for this coin. If it were a doubled die, then the devices would have been distorted.

No listings for that year, but to give you an idea what it would look like check out this listing for a 2019 DDO on these devices:

That is the distortion of the devices on these DDO's. That is what to look on these DDO's.
