Yes, Die Deterioration. The Ridge Ring on the obverse is a sure sign.

Like a teenager different events happen to make an strange looking coin. Planchets, Dies, Strike, Mechanical issues, die wear and circulation affect coins. When a different coin happens, it is not a good thing. (just a worse of the worst coin) Good strikes, Hub doubling (which is a die issue) are more interesting to serious collectors. Die events happen and get the interest to a new collector, but as the collect gets roots under their feet, they realize die events are common. (Lest desirable as collector pieces) But real mint errors are the big money to serious mint error collectors. Die events are common to find. Just knowing what they are and how common they are, reduce interest to serious collectors.

Does anyone else think the "D" is a bit too large and is slightly crooked? Maybe it's just my eyes.
