Just pulled this going through a pile of coins! I nearly dismissed this as a hit but gave Coppercoins a look and it's a match. According to Coppercoins "A portion of the secondary mintmark shows to the southeast and is slightly rotated CCW. This variety is seemingly scarce, perhaps because 1979D is a year not known for varieties, therefore not heavily searched. A certified AU50 copy sold for $40.00" So this is a nifty find. Thanks for looking!

Very cool find! I was not even aware of this or the other two RPM's, listed on cc. Do you think that's clash remnants, sticking out south of the mm?

Congrats on a nice RPM.
I think you are right about this year not being searched as heavily.
This is also the year for the broken punch which throws a lot of people off of searching for them.
Words of encouragement are one of the major food groups.
We need to consume them regularly to thrive and grow.

Pretty nice RPM
The second one is weaker then the main MM - It makes me wonder how these originate - The mint worker hitting on the MM tool twice and the tool moving just a teeny bit between hits?

Yes indeed, a very nice and hard to find RPM, MM location is correct, a 2x2 worthy for sure.

Many thanks for the comments!

-Makecents- The portion sticking out south of the MM is the secondary MM. It shows the bottom serif of the D and it is rotated slightly CCW. Interesting that this shows the damaged punch of the bottom serif of the secondary MM more clearly than other examples listed on the attribution sites.

This is also WRPM-001 http://crdievarieties.com/doku.php?id=lmc1979dwex

Note this one is a NE. The Look of the Lower serif is not part of the RPM. The East side is showing the RPM. The Split on the lower serif if from a damaged mintmark punch and can be seen on many cents as well as all other denominations.

Hey Coop, I did note that damaged punch issue in the reply before yours. Do you see that damaged serif on the secondary MM poking out SE of the primary MM? It looks like it to me.

Yeah Willburton, I can imagine finding these and throwing them back in wild by accident over the years. Which is why they are, or were, considered scarce. This MM was in good enough condition to where I paused long enough to a second look thankfully.
