Thanks. I'll make updates to the post this coming week when I go through some more boxes. I had a empty Whitman folder laying around so I am going to try and complete it from circulation. I think I may give it to someone who has interest in collecting but leave some of the "P" spots open. I'm certain they would be able to find them in circulation and hopefully catch the "Bug".

Have you double checked your 39's for doubled reverse, the 40D 40S and 49 49S 52S are tougher catches. Did you look for double eye or 43/2 in your 1943 P Jefferson's and your 46 D for a D over inverted D?
Nice catches and a smattering of information that tells me, the good old days are fast approaching. I remember when a lot more nickels with those dates and mint marks would show up in (what is it?) 10,000 nickels. Makes me re-think dumping off my duplicates again. I love it! Glad the lowly nickel is getting snapped up!

I don't have a magnifying glass to get a closer look. I was actually thinking about researching to see what would work best. Prior to finding this board I was only a date keeper. Once I get something to magnify and also a camera that takes much closer pics I will finally be able to share my findings.
The most curious coin I found in the 5 boxes was a 1975 nickel. The D mint mark was practically on top of the 5. In comparison to many other 1975 D's the mintmark is totally in the wrong place.

the great thing about going through nickels is you can almost complete a whole set in one box

If you keep it up you should start to find a buffalo or two after about 6 or 7 boxes. Silvers usually appear at a rate of around 1 per box sometimes a bit more. Liberty heads and proofs are rarer but still findable if you start looking through dozens of boxes. Cuds or major die breaks are more common in nickels than other denominations due to the hardness of the material used. I usually find a liberty, proof, variety, key, or major error every 10 - 15 boxes or so. 38d, 39s, 50p, 38s, and 39d are all keys and 49s, 51s, 55p, and 50p can be tough as well but all are still findable in circulation and with enough dedication you can finish the set without purchasing a single coin. -XoG

Just went through 2 more boxes. To my surprise I found my first 1939D in circulation. I also came across a very nice 1938P and a very odd 1944 reeded coin about the size of a nickel.
It says "Belgie on one side of a lion and Belgique on the other". On the other side of the coin is a crown at 12 o'clock with a 1 at 9 o'clock and a F at 3 o'clock.
