So what is the difference between split plating and this DDO? What am I missing?

There is some slight Machine Doubling on the motto devices. Split plating is an issue seen often on the reverse side of the Memorial cents on the USA area new the rims. Thus the color there will be gray, exposing the zinc planchet, and zinc rots sets in: This is not a plus for the coin, but actually is a breakdown on the coin was it continues to age and get zinc rot. The count down has already started on these coins. CoopHome: What is split plating? during the strike, the strike/looseness of the machine splits the plating. this exposes the zinc and give it oxygen. the color will be gray and zinc rot will set in. so this is not a good thing. But when purchasing coins, make sure those areas are not showing the split plating. on cent obverse look at the SE area of the mintmark. Just make sure there is not issue there if you are a RPM collector:

I do not see enough evidence from OP pictures to say this is Definitely a DDO. No evidence of any Die Markers, etc.

Quote: No evidence of any Die Markers, etc. ? The die chip in the 4? The thickness of the letters and numbers is the most obvious tell for this being the DDO. It is abnormally strong especially when compared to a normal cent.
