This nickel is destroyed. Pretty consistent damage on both sides. Maybe I'm crazy but it seems like there is something going on behind all that scarring. I had to take a break from staring at it. My question is...Can a coin that is this trashed have an error that would make the damage not matter ? There is something strange about it. Just haven't identified it yet.

See how the rim is sorta rolled? I think it has been in the dryer. That would account for the texture and hit marks.

That could explain it. I'm going to keep looking at it. It just seems like there is something going on with it that is more than just being beat up. Thank you

What exactly are you seeing other than the damage?

All I see is damage. Beware of Pareidolia when examining such coins.

Even if this coin were an error or variety, the condition would render it worthless.

Folks. This coin is AMAZING. It's like someone got bored and just sat there and stamped this nickel to death. I think that everything that looks like damage is actually part of an image from other coins. There is SO MANY parts and pieces of coin images that I can't keep track. I need to get this to someone and have it checked out. I wish I could come even CLOSE to being able to show you what I'm seeing. It would blow your mind.

Yes, post-strike damage. As noted above, beware of Pareidolia. Ultimately, if you like coin, keep it as a fun curiosity.

You can see anything on a coin that you want to, if you look at it long enough.

Have you tried putting in on a turntable and playing it backwards to see if there is a hidden message?

It's your money, you can spend it and send it off to PCGS but it is nothing but a normal nickel with heavy circulation damage.
