Hey all,

Random thought. Since one can stack ASE, does this count as a stack?

Or is it a collection?

It is in the overlap of the Venn diagram.

I would say "No" to that being a stack...that's a collection and a nice one at that!

Man is that 96 sticking out. Is that one a proof?

No, not a stack because it has solid collector value beyond silver content.

Also that mix of dates wouldn't interest a stacker.

Serious stackers love ASEs for the brand name confidence but hate the premium they carry.

Nice collection by the way!

Yes the 96 is a proof. When I decided to do this I was missing only a few. The 96 cost the same as a proof or as a bullion. No brained get a proof.

I was an ASE collector for years but I stopped in the 90's as I was a poor college kid, got married and purchased a house. I had no money after that to get coins.

The reason I posted the above is that my ASE stack has different dates, everything from 1986 to 2022. Majority are in 2000-2018 but there are still early dates, why is that a stack but when its in an album its a collection ?

I think ASE`s are part of stacking, when price of silver rds are down, I buy them, when high I buy silver eagles if the price is right $30-$35

In short, to stackers, silver is fungible: an ounce of silver is an ounce of silver.

Stackers want silver as a hedge against inflation or as currency for the "end days".

All that matters is the actual silver weight.

An '86 ASE has the same silver content as any other year so the date is irrelevant to a stacker.

Same with bottled water, gallon of gas, etc etc.

There's a lot more to it, but that's the short answer.

Yes it can count as stacking, same as if you bought collectible silver rounds including those with limited mintages that are not from governmental sources. However as you know both of those can have additional value from the numismatic side and/or additional collectible value added that can be above the value of the silver alone unless silver goes up quite a bit. So in the end you'd lose that additional value sometimes selling to some dealers rather than direct to another collector as they may only consider the silver content value similar to a generic silver round rather than any collectible/numismatic consideration. It is also similar to those buying/selling 90% silver coins where most are being traded solely now for their silver value but on occasion some are worth far more than that depending on many factors. It can be both and therefore should just treat it based on the higher value choice.

Nice collection by the way.
